The 24-Star Flag — Missouri Joins the Union (1822–1836)
The 24-Star Flag became the official flag of the United States on July 4, 1822, following the admission of Missouri on August 10, 1821. It flew for fourteen years — one of the longest-serving flag designs in American history — and was the national flag under three presidents: James Monroe, John Quincy Adams, and Andrew Jackson. This was the era of the Erie Canal, the Monroe Doctrine, and the early expansion of the American frontier.
Stars are arranged in a linear row pattern — the standard layout adopted from the 20-star flag onward. The flag features 15 red and white stripes and 24 stars on a blue canton.
