About the US Army Flag
The United States Army traces its roots to June 14, 1775, when the Continental Congress established the Continental Army. The official US Army flag was adopted in 1956 — the first flag to represent the Army as a whole. It features a blue field bearing the Army coat of arms, the year of the Army’s founding (1775), and the words “United States Army.” Flown at bases, installations, and government offices worldwide, it is a symbol of 250 years of service and sacrifice.
