The authentic Swiss national flag has a square 1:1 field of Swiss red, charged with a centered white Greek cross. The four equal arms of the cross are each one-sixth longer than they are wide.
Note: Swiss federal law specifies a 2:3 rectangular proportion only for the civil and state ensign used by Swiss-registered ships, boats, and aircraft. For all other official and civilian use on land, the flag is square.
About the Swiss Flag
The Swiss Confederation's flag — a white cross on a red square — dates to the 13th century and the Battle of Laupen (1339), where Swiss troops wore white crosses on red to identify themselves. It became the official Swiss federal flag in 1848. Along with the Vatican, Switzerland is one of only two countries in the world with a square national flag.
