These flags are custom printed and made to order. Production time may vary. We do not offer refunds on custom printed flags.
Trusted by Government & Institutions
Our flags fly at military bases, US Coast Guard stations, city and county governments, federal agencies, police departments, and municipal buildings across the country — including New York City itself. NYC Parks orders from us. When institutions need flags built for permanent outdoor display, they order from US Patriot Colors.
The NYPD Flag — History & Symbolism
The NYPD flag is modeled after the United States flag. Its five white and green bars represent the five boroughs of New York City, while the 24 stars represent the disparate cities, towns, and villages incorporated into the City of New York in 1898.
The color green celebrates the deep history of New York law enforcement, tracing back to 1658 when the New Amsterdam night watchmen — the city's first paid police force — carried lanterns with green glass. It's one of the oldest law enforcement traditions in America.
Flag Sizing Guide
Choose the largest practical flag that suits your pole, display area, and local conditions. Always follow the flagpole manufacturer's size recommendations.
- 12x18 inch: Boat flags and compact displays.
- 16x24 inch and 2x3: Small residential, porch, and compact institutional displays.
- 3x5 through 5x8: Homes, offices, precincts, station houses, and standard commercial flagpoles.
- 6x10 and larger: Large commercial displays, memorials, government facilities, police headquarters, stadiums, and event use.
- Special sizes: Contact us for made-to-order sizes beyond the standard selector.
Single Sided vs. Double Sided
Single Sided — The design is printed on one face and shows in reverse on the back. Standard for outdoor flagpoles — flies great, weighs less, and is the most popular choice for residential and commercial display.
Double Sided — Two layers are sewn together with a blocking panel in between, so the design reads correctly from both sides. Ideal for building facades, wall mounts, parade display, or anywhere viewers approach from multiple directions. Heavier than single sided — allow for a stronger mounting point.
Flag Construction
- Custom printed nylon — made to order in the USA
- Deep, colorfast aniline-dye printing
- UV resistant with excellent fade resistance
- One-inch double-edge fold around the perimeter
- Four rows of stitching on the fly edge
- Reinforced stitching at top and bottom of fly edge
- Solid brass grommets
- Sizes 6x10 and larger include Rope and Thimble hardware
Want Extra Grommets?
Standard flags include brass grommets on the hoist side for flagpole attachment. Add top-and-bottom grommets to mount your flag flat against a wall, building facade, fence, railing, or boat transom — or for high-wind horizontal display.
