Sizes & Availability: Sizes 2x3 through 5x8 are commercially stocked and generally ship immediately. Sizes 12x18 inch and larger than 8x12 are made to order with a 2–3 week lead time.

FLAG HISTORY
Minnesota’s original state flag, adopted in 1893, featured the state seal on a blue field — a design that served the state for over 130 years. In 2023, the Minnesota Legislature established the State Emblems Redesign Commission to modernize the flag with a design that would be more distinctive, recognizable, and representative of the state’s identity.
After extensive public input and deliberation, the commission selected a new design in December 2023. The new flag was officially unveiled on May 11, 2024, and became the official state flag of Minnesota.
FLAG SYMBOLISM & MEANING
- Light Blue Field: Represents Minnesota’s abundant waters — the state is home to over 10,000 lakes, earning it the nickname “Land of 10,000 Lakes”
- Dark Blue Shape: A stylized silhouette of the state of Minnesota
- White North Star: Centered on the state shape, the North Star has been a symbol of Minnesota since statehood in 1858 — reflected in the state motto L’Étoile du Nord ("The Star of the North")
The design was praised by vexillologists (flag experts) for its simplicity, bold symbolism, and distinctiveness — qualities that make a flag easily recognizable at a distance.
