A Note on Sourcing
We have worked hard to find a Made in USA version of this cotton flag. Unfortunately, this is the only version we have been able to source, and it is imported and not manufactured in the USA. It is a beautiful flag, with rich cotton texture and distinctive sewn detail, but we want you to know its origin before you order.
A Little History: Why “Bunker Hill Red”?
This design is commonly known as the Bunker Hill Red flag. Its association with the battle comes through a painting created long after the event, rather than a contemporary record establishing that this exact flag flew there. The familiar name and the question of battlefield accuracy are two different things: the name remains useful even where the historical evidence is debated.
It is the red version, distinct from the blue flag also associated with Bunker Hill. For collectors and educators, that distinction offers an interesting starting point: how later artists, flag traditions, and popular memory shape the way a battle is remembered.
Look closely at this variation's canton. The red cross divides the white panel, with the green pine tree in its upper hoist quarter. This is not the same design as a banner with a plain white pine-tree canton. Display it as the Bunker Hill Red / New England Red Ensign variation, without treating the later painting as proof of its use during the battle.
Cotton for Historical Displays
Choose cotton for its traditional texture and indoor presentation. This flag is not recommended for continuous outdoor or wet-weather use. Keep it dry and protected from the elements. For extended marching use, consider the weight and comfort of your complete flag-and-pole setup.
