Starry Plough Ireland Flag — Made in USA
Display a distinctive symbol of Irish labour and republican history with a Starry Plough flag, also known as the Starry Plough banner or Irish Citizen Army flag. You may also find it under the American spelling, Starry Plow. Custom printed and made to order in the USA, this flag comes in single- or double-sided construction in 12x18 inch, 2x3, 3x5, 4x6, 5x8, or 6x10 sizes.
Made in USA • Printed, Not Sewn
The design is printed on nylon flag fabric, not assembled from individually sewn design elements. Standard hoist grommets are included for flagpole attachment.
What is the Starry Plough?
The Starry Plough is associated with the Irish Citizen Army and the Irish labour movement. The original banner was carried during the 1916 Easter Rising. Its later use by Irish political organizations gives it a distinct historical identity; it is not the national flag of Ireland.
What does the Starry Plough mean?
The name refers to the seven-star asterism commonly called the Plough in Ireland and Britain, or the Big Dipper in North America, within the constellation Ursa Major. The plough links agricultural labour with the stars, expressing the movement's ideal that working people should control their own destiny, from the plough to the stars.
Other names: Starry Plow and Irish Citizen Army Flag
Starry Plough banner, Starry Plow flag, and Irish Citizen Army flag are alternate names used for this flag tradition. Plow is the American spelling of Plough. The original 1916 banner and the later blue-field, seven-star version are distinct designs associated with this tradition. Choose this listing for the design shown in its product image. Plough and Big Dipper describe the star pattern, not separate flag designs.
Single or Double Sided?
Single sided: The printed design is visible from the reverse in a mirrored orientation. This is a practical choice for ordinary flagpole display.
Double sided: Choose this option when you want the design to read in the correct orientation from both sides, especially when both faces will be viewed.
Flag Sizing Guide
12x18 inch: Compact boat and small display applications.
2x3: Small porches, balconies, and indoor displays.
3x5: A familiar residential flag size for everyday display.
4x6 and 5x8: Greater visibility for larger spaces and event displays.
6x10: Large-format display where the pole and mounting equipment can support it.
Match your flag to the pole manufacturer's size and load recommendations. Larger sizes through 20x30 are available on demand by quote, with Rope and Thimble hardware for large-format options. Ask about a larger size.
Construction and Display
Nylon fabric: Suitable for indoor or outdoor flag display.
Reinforced finish: Double-fold edges, four rows of stitching on the fly, and reinforced fly-end corners.
Included attachment: Standard brass hoist grommets come with the listed flag sizes. Bring flags indoors during severe weather to reduce wear.
Want Extra Grommets for Banner Use?
Standard grommets are already included. The optional add-on provides EXTRA top-and-bottom attachment points so you can display your flag as a banner on a wall, barn, fence, railing, or between supports.
