Vermont National Guard Flag
This is an American made flag of our toughest, most durable nylon fabric with colorfast dyes. It has solid brass grommets. You won't find a nylon flag with higher tensile and tear strength, yet it flies very well in the wind. It has excellent strength retention under UV exposure, and high resistance to UV fading. The colors are deeper, brighter and last over time, due to the aniline dyeing process. There is a one inch double edge fold with four rows of stitching on the fly edge. It has 1½ inch reinforced stitching vertically at the fly corners, and 3½ inch reinforced hem stitching (horizontal) at top and bottom of the fly.
This flag is part of the 250th anniversary of the United States of America — part of the 1776 Flags collection.
History of the Green Mountain Boys Flag
The Green Mountain Boys was the name of a Patriot militia under the early leadership of Ethan Allen. They participated in a number of important battles of the War of Independence.
The flag of the Green Mountain Boys began as a regimental flag used by the militia. A remnant of a Green Mountain Boys flag, believed to belong to John Stark, is owned by the Bennington Museum — one of the few surviving regimental flags from the American Revolution. Although Stark was at the Battle of Bennington and likely flew this flag, the battle has become more commonly associated with the Bennington Flag, which is believed to be a 19th-century banner.
Today the flag is used as the regimental flag of the Vermont National Guard. The regimental flag, known also as a "battle flag" or war flag, accompanies the unit on battle assignments and is physically handed to the commander of the regiment, as described by former Vermont National Guard Adjutant General Martha Rainville. The flag is also a symbol of the Vermont Secessionist movement, and the Castleton University football team has featured it in pre-game ceremonies since 2009.
