Big Red: A South Carolina Tradition
Known as Big Red, this distinctive red palmetto flag has roots in South Carolina’s Civil War-era history. The design later became associated with The Citadel’s South Carolina Corps of Cadets and continues to be displayed as a symbol of tradition, duty, honor, courage, and school spirit. It is suitable for South Carolina history displays, educational settings, collectors, ceremonies, and patriotic events.
Big Red is a historical flag design and not a claim of official licensing, endorsement, or sponsorship by any institution.
Flag Sizing Guide
Choose the largest practical flag that suits your pole, display area, and local conditions. Always follow the flagpole manufacturer’s size recommendations.
- 12x18 inch: Boat flags and compact displays.
- 16x24 inch and 2x3: Small residential, porch, vehicle, and compact institutional displays.
- 3x5 through 5x8: Homes, offices, schools, veteran halls, and standard commercial flagpoles.
- 6x10 and larger: Large commercial displays, campuses, memorials, stadiums, government facilities, and parade or event use.
- Special sizes: Ask about made-to-order sizes and custom attachment requirements beyond the normal selector.
Outdoor Construction and Quality
These flags are custom printed and made to order with durable outdoor flag fabric, a reinforced header, brass grommets where specified, and construction matched to the selected size and side configuration.
- Single- or double-sided options: Select the configuration that fits the viewing direction and display.
- Custom printed design: The red palmetto and crescent design is printed, not embroidered, so every size in the selector carries the same look.

- Reinforced finish: One-inch double-fold edge, multiple rows of fly-end stitching, and reinforced stitching at the top and bottom.
- Attachment choices: Grommet and pole-hem options are available where shown. Larger flag options use Rope and Thimble attachment in the size selector.
- Custom production: Every flag is produced for the order, and production time varies.
