How to Attach the brass snap to a Pole
- Thread the halyard through the snap loop. Pass the end of your halyard rope through the metal loop at the top of the swivel snap.
- Tie a secure knot. Use a bowline or double overhand knot to fasten the halyard to the snap loop — this keeps the snap fixed in place on the rope.
- Clip the snap to your flag grommet. Open the snap gate by pressing the spring-loaded lever, insert the flag's grommet ring, and release to lock it in place.
- Repeat for the bottom grommet. Attach a second snap to the lower grommet the same way, then tension the halyard and cleat it off to your flagpole cleat.
- Check periodically. Inspect snaps seasonally for wear, corrosion, or stiff swiveling — replace promptly to prevent flags from dropping in high winds.

Flag snaps are ordered by homeowners, HOAs, schools, government buildings, military installations, and commercial flag display operators. If you fly a flag on a pole with an external halyard, you need at least two of these — one at the top grommet, one at the bottom.
